As a youth, The Shaun grew to appreciate the benefits of Chicago’s Roger Park community art programs such as Insight Arts and Wisdom Bridge Theater. Here he relished the ability to channel his raw energy in artistic forms and became involved with many community art projects including ensemble productions and mural art collaborations. It was through these programs and other predominant influences in his life that the value of individuality and free-expression. It is with these values along with strong life experiences that THE SHAUN was born from the shell of a shy young biracial boy from the north side of Chicago.
The “THE” does not symbolize a sense of being self-centered, cockiness or arrogance. THE SHAUN is no better than any man, woman, child or being. The “THE” is a symbol of individuality; as in “Only” or “Original”. In a world in which creativity, imagine and original ideas are losing the battle with status quo, corporate joe, “that worked before” and “that’s the way they do it”; being original has become looked down upon… even taboo. THE SHAUN is not just any SHAUN, not just another light-skinned brother stereotype but an original individual with his own ideas, thoughts and style.
Upon coming back to Chicago after college, Shaun fell back in love with community involvement through volunteer efforts and various non-profit organizations as he re-established his commitment to giving back to the very community that gave so much to him. This blog was created to show the world that once you once yourself and believe in yourself…there’s nothing that can stop you from achieving anything you desire in this world.
Now a father, active blogger, volunteer, community activist and advocate for social consciousness & free expression, The Shaun stands ready to introduce the people of today and the children of tomorrow to a world where ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
